Top 5 Questions Clients Ask Before Starting a Project

1. Do I Need a Mobile App, a Web App, or Both?

This is often the first question and it's a crucial one. The answer isn't one-size-fits-all; it depends entirely on how your audience behaves and what you're trying to achieve.

• Mobile apps offer deeper integration with device features: think GPS, camera access, push notifications, and offline functionality. They create intimate, personalised experiences that keep users coming back.

• Web apps, on the other hand, live in the browser. No downloads, no app store approvals, just instant access from any device. They're fast to deploy and universally accessible.

• Here's how to think about it: A retail brand running loyalty programmes and flash sales? A mobile app lets you send push notifications and create that addictive, always-accessible shopping experience.

A B2B consultancy offering client dashboards and reporting tools? A web app gives instant access without asking busy professionals to download yet another app.

The truth is, sometimes you need both. A hybrid approach or progressive web app (PWA) can give you the best of both worlds without doubling your development costs.

• Start by asking: Where does your audience spend their time? What actions do you want them to take? The answers will guide your platform choice.

2. Should I Launch on iOS, Android, or Both?

Once you've decided on a mobile app, the next question is: which platform?

Your target users should drive this decision, not assumptions.

• iOS users tend to have higher spending power, particularly in the UK, US, and Western Europe. If your business model relies on in-app purchases or premium subscriptions, iOS might be your starting point.

• Android, meanwhile, dominates globally especially in Asia, Africa, and South America. If you're targeting a broad, international audience, Android offers unmatched reach.

Consider these examples:

A UK-based fitness coaching app targeting busy professionals? Starting with iOS makes sense.

An educational platform aiming for global impact? Android opens doors to millions more users.

Here's the exciting part: modern development frameworks like React Native and Flutter allow you to build for both platforms simultaneously, often with a single codebase. You get the reach of both iOS and Android without doubling your development time or costs.

And here's where AI is changing the game. AI-powered development tools are making cross-platform development faster and more efficient than ever, helping startups compete with enterprise-level resources.

3. How Much Will This Actually Cost?

Let's talk numbers, because budgeting matters, especially for startups and SMEs watching every pound.

The honest answer? It varies. But that doesn't mean you're flying blind.

A basic prototype or minimum viable product (MVP) might cost a few thousand pounds. It's lean, focused, and designed to test your core idea quickly.

A feature-rich app, think healthcare platforms with compliance requirements, complex integrations, multilingual support, and sophisticated user journeys, can run into six figures.

Here's a simple comparison:

A straightforward booking app with payment integration will cost far less than a streaming platform with analytics dashboards, personalised recommendations powered by AI, and gamification features.

The key is transparency. Any reputable development partner should provide a detailed project estimate after understanding your requirements. Beware of quotes that seem too good to be true, they usually are.

4. What's a Realistic Timeline?

You're eager to launch. We get it. But realistic timelines prevent rushed work, buggy releases, and disappointed users.

Here's what to expect:

• Simple apps or MVPs: 2–3 months from concept to launch

• Feature-rich, complex platforms: 6–12 months or longer

An e-learning platform with video hosting, interactive quizzes, progress tracking, and user analytics will naturally take longer than a static content hub or brochure app.

The smart approach? Agree on milestones early. Agile development methodologies where you build, test, and iterate in short cycles keep projects flexible and transparent. You'll see progress regularly, provide feedback, and adjust course as needed.

AI tools are also accelerating timelines. From automated code generation to predictive project management, technology is helping teams deliver faster without sacrificing quality.

Remember: launching quickly is good. Launching smartly is better.

5. What Happens After Launch?

Here's a truth that surprises many first-time app developers: launch day isn't the finish line. It's the starting gun.

Your app needs ongoing attention to thrive. Regular updates keep users engaged. Bug fixes maintain functionality. Security patches protect your users and your reputation. Feature enhancements respond to user feedback and market changes.

Think about your favourite apps like Instagram or Spotify, even your banking app. They release updates constantly, refining experiences and adding new capabilities.

You need a partner who's in it for the long haul. We offer post-launch support packages designed to keep your app competitive, secure, and continuously improving.

AI-powered analytics can also help you understand user behaviour post-launch, identifying opportunities for improvement and predicting which features will drive engagement.

The Bigger Picture: Making Informed Decisions

Let's step back for a moment. Global mobile app revenue is expected to reach $613 billion in 2025. That's not just a statistic, it's proof that digital platforms are no longer optional; they're essential.

But success isn't about jumping on the bandwagon. It's about making strategic choices that align with your business goals and serve your audience genuinely.

Quick comparison to guide your thinking:

• Mobile apps: Higher engagement, richer features, but higher development and maintenance costs

• Web apps: Universally accessible, more affordable, but less personalisation and device integration

• Hybrid solutions: Balance reach with functionality, often the sweet spot for growing businesses

As TechCrunch noted, "The right platform choice can accelerate growth by years." That's not hyperbole, it's the difference between a project that struggles and one that scales.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

We've seen businesses make these mistakes, and we'd hate for you to repeat them:

• Launching without testing demand first. Start with one, validate your concept, then expand.

• Forgetting about ongoing costs. Support, marketing, updates, they all require budget beyond development, but it does not mean we can’t help you with that as we offer flexible and low-cost services to our clients.

• Cutting corners on testing to speed up delivery. Buggy launches damage your reputation and cost more to fix later. It’s always better to have a beta testers to test the app.

Your Next Steps

Starting a digital project is exciting, but the most successful ones begin with clarity. By asking the right questions about platforms, costs, timelines, and support, you're already ahead of the game.

Digital growth isn't about rushing to launch, it's about making informed, strategic decisions that align with your vision and serve your customers brilliantly.
